About Roy Holliday
While re-designing the website, we were tasked with writing an info piece on Roy. A traditional bio just didn’t seem right. In the end, it was agreed that, rather than making it all shiny and pretty, we’d edit some clips and let Roy tell you himself. With that said, read at your own risk and Happy Hollidays…
I was born a poor black child… Wait, wrong story. Seriously now, I wasn’t poor… Ok, maybe I was poor, too. I can’t remember that far back. Anyway, I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma several decades ago. Growing up in OK provided wide exposure to a variety of musical styles and types of people. I feel that all of them together make up a great deal of who I am as a person.
Musically: The New Wave, Punk & Industrial explosions, the “Tulsa Sound” of Leon Russell and Co., the pop/rock of Hanson, to the abundance of Country and Western from the likes of locals Garth Brooks, Reba & Vince Gill. I have been to the Cain’s Ballroom more times than I can count. Culturally: From the hard working farmers to the oil barons, Oklahoma had it all. Well, almost… I did move to Texas in the end. We’ll get to that some other time…
“How did you wind up doing Christmas music?” seems to be the #1 question I hear. Let me try to explain… For about 20 years I had been active in the music scene, playing in bands and such, but just wasn’t getting that buzz I was needing. I wasn’t being myself. Looking back, I didn’t really know myself. So, I went on a mission. A mission to find my inner Roy
Living in Texas, there is a lot of sky to look at… I thought long and hard, “What do I like? What makes me happy?” Well, you know, I like a lot of things, but the first thing that came to mind every time was Christmas. Not just Christmas day, but specifically Christmas Music. My fondest childhood memories are being with family at Christmas, having Bing, Andy Williams and so many others playing in the background. That thought makes me happy right now as I’m telling you about it.
But, I also like the beach. I like to laugh. I like to have a good time and I’m not afraid of an adult beverage. I really like Las Vegas and I love rollercoasters. I am not politically correct. I believe there’s no such thing as a bad dog. I like Texas Music, Ska, Dean Martin and dances with names. I like Fried Okra. If you walk too close to me with a pizza in hand, you will lose that hand. I’m not terribly deep. Roll all that up in a ball, put me in a studio and there you have it. I hope you like my songs. Stay gold, kids… RH
